WHERE TO DONATE
On Friday, Nov. 13, 2009... in the early evening,
(six year old) NONI Lopez was with his older brother Miguel (nine)
and their father Chris.  They were walking in the crosswalk
at 1st and Pike St. in downtown Seattle near the Public Market.   

A bicyclist, without brakes or a headlight, decided to run a red light
through the crosswalk.  The cyclist slammed into NONI, then fell off
his bike and ran to get back on his bike, attempting a Hit & Run.  
Fortunately,  there were several witnesses that managed to catch
the cyclist and hold him until the police took him into custody.  

Unfortunately, the damage was done and Noni was seriously injured.  
NONI was rushed to Harborview Medical Center suffering a broken
jaw, fractured in three places.  Surgery was required the following
morning on Nov. 14th.  NONI's jaw and mouth had to be wired shut.  
Forcing NONI to have to be on a liquid diet.  

On Dec. 7th the wires that held his mouth shut were cut and Noni
could finally have very soft foods in addition to the liquid diet he'd
been on for 3 weeks.   That in itself was a struggle for NONI and his
family, requiring a separate diet for NONI,
especially through the Holidays.  

Noni's jaw was not healing as fast as the Doctors and family had
hoped, so the second surgery was postponed until Jan. 4th, when
the hardware that was holding Noni's jaw in place was removed.  
NONI still faces further treatment for his injuries and possibly
extensive dental treatment to repair and replace both baby and
permanent teeth.   NONI and his family are taking it one day at a time,
one step at a time, learning as time goes on about what treatments
will be needed, hoping for the best outcome.  

The accident has caused physical and emotional pain and stress
and financial hardship for the family.  
To the best of our knowledge, the cyclist apparently does not have
any insurance or funds to pay for the treatment of the injuries he
caused.  Hopefully he will at least do the time for the crime he
committed against an innocent six year old boy.  

Donations are requested to help the family deal with the out of
pocket medical and dental expenses that insurance will not cover.
